Rainforest Shelter's in P4/5

As part of our exciting topic “The Rainforest,” our P4/5 pupils took their learning outdoors to design and build their very own rainforest shelters. Working in teams, the children explored how real rainforest tribes use natural materials for protection and survival. They then put their knowledge into action by selecting sticks, branches, leaves, and anything else they could find in our outdoor area to construct shelters of their own.

The activity required teamwork, creativity, problem‑solving, and plenty of perseverance. We discussed which shapes and structures would be strongest, experimented with different ways to secure their materials, and made improvements along the way, just like real explorers or rainforest tribes would have to do.

Once the shelters were complete, each group proudly presented their designs.

It was a fantastic hands‑on learning experience that brought our rainforest topic to life, helping pupils deepen their understanding of habitats, survival, and global diversity, all while having great fun outdoors! 🌿🏕️
